Hypothesis (1980)

Hypothesis (1980)

A Poem by PoetryofProvidence

what is your consensus
opinion of the heart
let me closely listen
tell it from the start
without careless observations
your premise must be seen
keep your reservations
I must know what you mean
piece it all together
in each logical refrain
line by line see whether
will your argument remain
add it up full scope
collect items of inquiry
your consummate deduction
elucidate to me
as certain as I hear you
if your word stands ground
I will be persuaded
by information you expound
know that I will test
each thing you call a fact
tear it down and build it up
the truth will stand attack
if there's any weakness
in the concepts you have built
the fire of my scrutiny
will your supposition wilt
should I find disparity
in notions that you weave
affect it will the verity
you hope I should perceive
you'll find I'm only interested
in observations strong and sure
Ideas unpolluted
and thinking that is pure
to understand with clarity
all knowledge to be found
gain wisdom that a rarity
in this universe around
venture upon your narrative
if you wish it scrutiny bare
the truth will suffer no the less
but be established by the wear
