On Parents and Children (1982)

on dreamy days when I think of you
and the parts of life
that are meant for two
I realize that part of me
is not as whole as it could be
that all of life and all it's gain
without you now there's yet some pain
of emptiness and sharing dreams
that for two the caring brings
Two laughing hearts who've share the toil
wrapped in loves concern , life's burning oil
To live alone on the street of life
having missed the joys and the strife
and understand as can only two
all the things we'd have gone through
so down the road we'd understand
and through it all walked hand in hand


this was written in a letter to my father
I found some of his letters when we cleaned
out the house and it was among them
with ones he wrote but never sent me
