The Well (11-16-85)

The Well (11-16-85)

A Poem by PoetryofProvidence

I am full of pain and fears
the culmination of the years
All the things I keep inside
the secret place where I do hide
In this vast and boundless soul
is a universe to know
In unseen reaches of this well
the springs of life their course retell

Draw them up I would for you
the clearest waters of the truth
unspoiled , untouched by any hand
unpolluted by the land of man
the company of many souls
I've emptied out and helped make whole
until myself with nothing left
left alone and left bereft

Have I nothing left to give
but the richness of a heart that lives
In darkness have I buried treasure
the valued sum of richest measure
In empty space the brightest stars
enclosed within these prison bars
These are the things belonging to me
The vastness of eternity

our only true possessions dwell within
the sources of true treasure and life
where exists all pain and pleasure
and what we impart to those we love
