Newly Ancient

Newly Ancient

A Poem by bball_41
"

change, constant, life

"

Someone wise once told me

that the world is ancient,

but it has not lost it's newness.

This really struck me.

*

*

Since the beginning of time

our world has been evolving.

Some of it has been good,

but other things have been appalling.

*

*

While things are constantly changing,

something is always constant.

There is something that has always been venerable.

Something that has been recognized since the beginning

*

*

There is always someone who speaks authentically.

On the contrary, there is always someone who speaks through lies.

There is always someone full of affection.

But, also one person full of hostility.

*

*

The constant runs deeper than an emotion.

It travels through the veins of the compassionate and contentious.

The two most antithetical things are both perpetual.

But one day only one will remain.

*

*

One's flame will be dimmed and weakened.

While one fades, the other will brighten.

It's flame will be fanned into a fire.

And become an eternal alluring blaze.

*

*

So, yes, the world is changing

and so are our constants,

which goes against the word itself.

But the unimaginable will become a reality.

*

*

I know there will come a day

when one constant will reign supreme.

The real and evident question is,

Which constant will it be?

*

Author's Note

bball_41
The format represents the idea of a constant four lines for each stanza, but the inconstancy of having some lines long and short, and also the change of alignment for each stanzas. It is just like life. There is always at least one constant thing, but a lot of inconsistent things. Enjoy!
