A Teacher’s Wherefore                               by Bill Cravotta

Shake their hands,

shake their world,

smile when they least expect it.

Read their faces,

read their looks,

smile when they don’t expect it.

Speak their thoughts,

speak their minds,

smile when they won’t expect it.

Write their words,

write their faces,

smile when they can’t expect it.

Listen, they’re thinking,

listen, they’re speaking,

smile when they’re wont to expect it.

Think they’re not,

think they’re so,

smile when they daren’t expect it.

Think, they’re not,

think, they’re so,

smile when they daren’t expect it.

See their eyes,

see their fears,

smile when they most expect it.

Hear their pleas,

hear their dreams,

smile when they can’t expect it.

Feel their hearts,

feel their hope,

smile when they won’t expect it.

Touch their souls,

touch their pain,

smile when they don’t expect it.

Shake their world,

shake their hands,

smile when they least expect it.
