My Body is a Temple

My Body is a Temple

A Poem by bdelhaye

My body is a temple,

I am praised upon

In times of need,

Then left.

I am touched,

Groped,

Given gifts aplenty,

Then abandoned..

My name is sworn

In good,

In bad,

And in vein.

My eyes are like oceans,

Able to cure wounds

With the salt water

I create.

My mouth is a portal

To another world,

Everyone longs for a taste

To be someone else.

They come and go,

Taking parts of me with them

As a sign of strength,

A trophy if you will.

And soon I will be empty,

A shrine long forgotten,

A church for a religion

No longer practiced.

And maybe one day

A disciple will come,

And make me their religion,

Make my temple their home.
