Doris

A Poem by beancountersar
"

This is a poem I wrote after reading the latest biography of Doris Day. Her life was such a paradox between the screen and reality. She has been unhappy most of her life; all she ever wanted was a husband who loved her and a family; two things that elu

       Where do the pedals go when tempest torn

From the flower so warm and bright?

Does time stand still for each star

That shines through the darkest night?

Though weary and battered by storms indifference

The beautiful vessel continues the trek;

The raging of the waves only strengthen her

Resolve, and fortify her heart, where dreams are kept.

Love does go to that secret place seemingly unaware

Of the pain and void it leaves in every trailing wake.

The destination known, would we long to travel there…

There to the depths, the place where the heart it would take?

This place, this time…will be again Some day.

Onward now to seas unknown, to shores beyond;

Where forever Love was waiting to stay.

I think this is written with real feeling and flow. You've painted with your words, rather than just stringing them together to say something. "Hoist the idle sails and raise the burdening Anchor" is a good example of this. Nice writing.

The more I read of you Steve, the more I fall in love with your work, and the tenderness of your heart. You obviously feel deeply for your fellow man and that is a trait that is not always seen in todays world. I didn't know this of Doris Day. What a shame that her life was not happy when she brought so much laughter to the world. Great write and I see that you have entered this into a challenge. Good luck on that as well.

Blessings,
Lesa
