At Home Exploration

A Poem by Bear
"

it was late one night 22 years ago and I was....

"

Sitting on the arm of the couch

staring down the hall,

I thought;

     it's dark but, no;

the light bursting from the door

drifted to the floor

forming patterns that were,

     made only to fade to dark.

The light started out a yellow-gray

and deepened yet to another shade;

     only to be spoiled

     by another burst of light,

     coming from another door.

Light from the door immediately became dusk-gray.

That shade darkened, enclosing me in a

     black-gray haze.

With a turn of my head

my eyes soaked in the pitch blackness

coming up from the basement.

I wondered, "what is darkness?"

Not an enclosed box with no lights or openings.

It is not turly dark when you close your eyes at night.

          Do blind people see that light

          deep from in their eyes?

       some do, some don't

    but, only those who don't

truly know the dark.

turly dark (truly)

Often something happens that makes us suddenly see clearly, in this case someone who is blind........that deep light behind.....some see in shades and movements............wonderful description of the change in colour, and realisation as you question.

What an intiguing concept. I have never even thought about that. It's a great end to the poem though. It gives it a punch that people will remember. I like the way you have described the light and the dark merging together. It's strangely beautiful.

another interesting concept. certainly something I haven't questioned before. I would say complete blindness will have the darkest darkness of all as no even memory would provide the mind with color or light. excellently written:)
