Rainbows in the Darkness

Rainbows in the Darkness

A Poem by Bear
"

just what I "discovered" late on night standing on the patio during a steady rain

"

Standing on the patio, catching a breath of fresh air.

I'm looking up at the dark night sky,

while listening to the lightly falling rain.

I catch flickers of light in my vision

thinking it may be a plane way above me.

I think "what a crummy night to fly,

go home you fool to a warm and gentle place."

I keep looking up, grateful that it's a warm evening and

then again, the rainbow patterned light flickers within my eyes.

The gutter above me is leaking, as it always does,

      giving me no break.

The drops continue to fall in front of me,

guess it's just their way of saying unto me,

"Go inside you fool to where it is warm for, it is a gentle place."

I'm not ready yet, and grateful I wasn't

for I discovered by staying put

that rainbows are created even on the darkest of rainy nights

for as the water droplets descended from above,

the porch light was reflecting within them, allowing me

to see that rainbows can occur even on a dark and rainy

night, in a tiny water droplet.

Beautiful! Reminds me that it is good to stop and pay attention to what is around us. There are many wonders to see. Next time it rains at night I will go out to see if I can see the rainbows. Thank you for sharing.

Sallie,
I loved this poem. THe line... go home you fool to a warm and gentle place.
How i can identify so with that. Sometimes, home is where your heart is. Sometimes, it is far away. That gentle place can be with in us or someplace that we feel comfortable in...
Another wonderful poem..love the imagery..

I like your poem. It's amazing what a person can see or think when standing out in the night all by yourself. The thoughts and images that come into your mind and the things you notice in the night that you never think of in the day. Great poem.
