SAINT

SAINT

A Poem by Amy Craig Beasley

I can be

For you

Whoever

You want

Me

To

Be

I can be

For them

A name

That they chase

And all they

Find

Is an empty pile of clothes

That clothed

Me

Once

Fools

Fooled

So easily

But your eyes

Saw me

Who I am

All of me

And no matter what

I did

I did not deceive

You

Once

Not once did you

Not know

What I needed

When all of the time

I so cleverly tried to be

For you

The one

You needed

Very nice. I read it a few times, trying to understand and get the full meaning. At first I thought the "you" may have been God, but then it seemed more like someone--perhaps a husband or lover. Certainly, for a relationship to work, there must be attention to one another's needs.
