ink

ink

A Poem by Jen

your eyes scream at me.
imprinting messages in black ink scrawled across my forehead
in a helpless manner.
you are a crater of  emotion
and a valley of death
your eyes hold more than what you say
but they speak to me so.
you are your own nightmare
and a nightmare is what consumes you
it swallows you whole,
and spares  nothing of you.
it sends you diving down, into your valley of death.
plunging head first into shattered glass.
it  cuts you, like you cut yourself.
and  in that moment,
you know you are free.
as your head spills a red river,
filled  with  years of pain and sorrow,
you look to  me and smile.
and i have always wondered,
how you smiled when you had nothing left.
