you should know

you should know

A Poem by Bellah Bultron

i want to speak.

you should know why i sit

in quiet parking lots.

you should know why i cry

on top of tall buildings

but my words are clumsy.

they trip over shoelaces

and fall into bystanders

with barely a “sorry” whispered under their breath.

how could such careless, accident-prone words

ever describe the years my mind refuses to remember

or the lessons my heart won’t allow me to forget?

my speech would be an injustice to my thoughts

so instead -

i will sit in this silence

protecting the things you should know

from the words that seek to ruin them.

My first poetry ever submitted anywhere! I am still very much a novice, so any advice or helpful critique would be deeply appreciated.
