Diary (Ode to Alicia Keys)

Diary (Ode to Alicia Keys)

A Poem by Aankh Benu

Damn I'm tired of writing...talking to myself in the form of a book...

I give to it all the time...but does it give to me?...

I share with it everything....where is the reciprocity?...

I fill it with my emotions....but does it feel me?...

No...you see that's a human quality...

I want to be able to ask "Do you feel me"....

And hear her answer....

I want to be able to say "Do you hear me?"...

And hear..her...answer...

So why must I settle for a book that can't understand me....

I'd much rather this woman...her...as my diary...

I want to be able to reveal to her the depths of my soul...

The heights of my aspirations....

The frailness of my insecurities...

The loneliness of my secrets...and no she won't tell my secrets...

I'm safe with her...

She'll just tell me..and me alone...baby I feel you

I hear you....

I understand you....

I love you...

You can open up to me...

Put down your book....

Close it...

I'm your woman...

I'm your Diary.
