Speech of Trees

Speech of Trees

A Poem by LE Berry
"

The sound of growing things...so hard to hear.

"

move yielding ground unseen

creations space

unheard voice echoes beneath

rooted depth

calm sound wakeful dreams

sunrise beckons

life's reach above endless sky

boughs stretch

trembling twigs branch new

breezes met

whispering timeless tongue

language ancient

remembered tone complete

I have always felt empathetic for trees. We have much to learn from them - how they bend without breaking - how they let go. I love the allegory here, the unheard voice echoing beneath its rooted depth, the boughs, stretching. Whispering timeless tongue, language ancient...

What an extraordinary piece to have stumbled upon.

I feel a twisting of time in your lines as i read them unfold in the slow cadence to the witnessing. when i think of trees I always get this sense of a defiance in a slow inexhaustible push unending unyielding push up out down across motion simultaneously powerful and gentle. I didn't know you could speak tree Berry no end to your talents

You have struck a chord, L.E. Trees are not only beautiful, but necessary, and yet we clear cut them to build houses.
Where I live, the trees are occupied by cicadas and when they emerge the trees begin to sing...it can make a summer evening very enjoyable.

Maybe its Tolkien's Ents that lead the way.

A good write.

this is phenomenal...i love trees, especially the Maples in New England during fall...i listen to them then...
i listen to trees now...the wind and the rain let them speak...
an ancient language that maybe poets do understand...

sometimes quiet has the loudest voice.

I agree with you Jacob...to me trees are symbolic of magic at work on earth. You do understand...
