Daddy's Gun and Ice Cream

Daddy's Gun and Ice Cream

A Poem by Aina Yanzon Tolero

I came home one day

With my heart in such dismay

They say love is an art

Even though it broke your heart

Tears began to fall from my eyes

As I sip some juice with ice

Daddy saw me crying,

Daddy saw me sniffing

I heard his footsteps so near

Daddy sat beside me and pinch my ear

Daddy asked me what's wrong?

I shooked my head and stayed strong

He tried  making me laugh

And so I tried to smile but in half

I then told him what happened

Daddy hugged me without asking.

I told him that my love broke my heart

Daddy told me that I'm smart,

And with that daddy left

Like a person who comitted theft

I saw him to his room.

Daddy went out holding a gun that goes boom

Daddy smiled and told me he'll be back

I panicked and thought he'll kill him and attack

Several minutes later he's home

I screamed and asked why did he have to go?

Daddy told me to calm down

Daddy told me that he didn't bring him down

I was confused and raised my brow

Daddy laughed and told me not to frown

Daddy said that he was sorry

And that he used the gun to get the ice cream for free

My night ended happily

Because daddy was there when my life was crappy

I love my daddy and always will

He's the only man I'm sure that will love me still

Akin to a very dark, twisted, children's poem. Would also work nice if it were written with a more Gothic veneer. Or even Dr. Seuss. After all there's no such thing as too twisted. Haha!
