Night Owl

Night Owl

A Poem by Black Cat Fever

on a cold frosty night
beneath a full moon
with a blue ring circling it
an owl whoots
echoing across
a dark winter forest
from high in the Douglas Fir trees
another owl responds
mist curls around the tree trunks
drifting across the forest floor
freezing droplets of moisture
one owl unfurls her wings
 setting sail
through the forest
her call
reaching ever skyward
in a cold frosted night
where only moments ago silence was heard

I am reading this in broad daylight back here in Calcutta.. and it still gives me goosebumps!! What a brilliant way to weave the nocturnal beauty... This is perhaps intended to project the fact that the nature and the world has its own share of dark, mysterious events - many of which are beyond human comprehension... The imagery is superb! It's almost a movie unfolding in front of you... Brilliant work :)

A beautiful, haunting picture you paint with your words. I'm so glad to be able to enjoy it from the comfort of my nice warm home, than from that frosty forest!

Amazing poem. Your words paint a very realistic picture of a cold winter night with the owls active. Full of natures raw beauty. I enjoyed your poem a lot!

I love the sound of owls and you've got a really wonderful poem here in tribute to them.

Love this dark beauty... Just last night I saw shadows sailing overhead... the owls making light of the darkness... A richly woven write, my friend.

Thanks Craig.
A very beautiful and haunting poem, your descriptions bring the scene to life. I really enjoyed this, it brigs back memories when I lived in a location where I heard owls at night calling back and forth in chilling winter nights.
