They Say

They Say

A Poem by Areej

They say
He's the boy
The boy who's always late
The boy who doesn't have a mate
The boy who doesn't pay attention
He who doesn't follow convention
Never does his work
Should be in a cirque
Only thing he does all day is slack
Even his family doesn't want him back
And yet he doesn't crack

Alas

If only they knew
The boy's story
He too
Used to smile and laugh
Like Everyone else
Had a mentor he looked upto
Did his chores like the rest
As she held him close to her chest
The boy felt like he was in a dream
A dream he thought would last forever
But all dreams come to an end
And his fragile little heart
Couldn't take the reality
Shattered into a million pieces like glass
The boy was never the same after
Couldn't cry or laugh anymore
Only an endless void
And excruciating pain
Where his heart once resided
It hurts to even smile
Yet he tries his best

But it's not enough
The boy is spent
His time is long gone
But his mind refuses to give in
Just a shell of his former self
All alone
Wondering through the quiet night
He vanishes
And dissolves into the morning sky
The boy is lost
