Night On The Town

Night On The Town

A Poem by Karleem Johnson
"

A poem written after me and my friends chanced upon a couple of married women roaming our city :)

"

She wakes up every morning,

kiss the husband and kiss the kids,

grab a bite to eat and start

the same old routine,

something in her dies a little

day after day,

it hasn't always been this way.

She thinks back to the old days,

of fun and laughter with her best friends,

and flirting  and smiling at all the cute men,

and drinking and dancing until she is sore,

she dreams of all this and helluva lot more.

The thoughts consume until she has to get away,

away from the schedule that is oh so mundane,

away from the kids and hubby just for a day,

she calls up her friends and they are on their way,

she feels a tingle of excitement,

at the plans to be made.

Perfume and little outfits that show it all,

downtown lights and so many drinks,

she's laughing and too hot to think,

her head is fuzzy and she doesn't know where

they parked,

which is kind of bad,

but she doesn't mind,

because of all the fun that she's had.

Conversations with random strangers,

a bit of harmless flirting here,

a bit of harmless touching there,

a little peek here and a little kiss there,

giddy and light headed as she lets herself momentarily

fall back into old habits.

Her marriage rings doesn't limit her tonight,

she's too far gone,

squealing with delight,

so high that she never ever wants to come down,

she wants to feel this way forever.

On the way back home she and her friends laugh

as they discuss the night they had,

the best moments,

the good and the bad,

a smile had pasted itself on her face,

replacing the predeccessory frown,

all thanks to her night on the town.
