Away From Berlin to Settle

Away From Berlin to Settle

A Poem by SoulExchanger
"

You've left your life behind. Go, keep travelling and never settle instead of drinking coffee in the cafes of Berlin.

"

You’ve left your life behind
wandered the streets and tasted the food
climbed the stairs of the glowing tower
and the central subways
going up, going down, never stopping at the top nor the bottom.

This is how you live your life
not on top, never again,
but not rock bottom, yet.

“¡Nosotros os hemos extrañado! Pero…¿dónde está?”
Questions you can’t answer
ones you won’t…
because part of you still believes.

You find yourself by the sea
numbness not only in your heart, but also in your feet
perhaps you should get out
but for now you are content with the heaviness
as you wonder about the contradiction of green and ice

Ice on water to snow on land
you wander through the trees
sometimes stopping for sap;
sweet, but not enough
and down you go.

You find home
but isn’t home where the heart is?
so you skip through
straying from your origins

Traffic mirrors you
chaotic, out of order, but yet still functioning
“¿Eres ciego? ¡Mira por donde vas!”
but the heat reminds you of passion
and you stray to the waters

Tropical islands aren’t for you
dealing with foreigners-fascinated locals were never your strong suit
it never used to be your job anyway
is this still out of your comfort zone?

A day later, or is it before?
travel through the ancient ruins
what would it have been like,
if you were destroyed by a volcano
civilizations before you met?

Free fall " nothing stops you from taking risks
as you glide down the snowy mountain tops
the cold comes back
but you’ve already grown immune

The border can be seen,
but you don’t know what to do.
Your soul calls out " it recognizes home
how can it be home?

The fallen wall miles away
seem to build itself up before your eyes
warning you against entry
not just from east to west

you’ll be better off alone,
away from the last memory.
Go, keep travelling and never settle;
instead of drinking coffee in the cafés of Berlin
