libertine

libertine

A Poem by Brenden Taylor

i still think about you
libertine

not necessarily "us"
because there was no "us"

and I don't think about you
and him, or her, or them

I like to think about you alone
libertine

five boyfriends at one time
couldn't even hold you down

that takes strength and power
you were too strong for me

and you were too much for me
libertine

my trust and faith were your shackles
and you broke out of them

my heart was your prison
and you broke out of that, too

because you are freedom personified
and I want to be free like you

I want to be free like you
libertine.
