Time Was On My Side

Time Was On My Side

A Poem by bobby

TIME WAS ON MY SIDE

I saw the sun drip dew from the tired mask of dawn

Dressed in vermillion beams like treasured amulets

It gripped my heart taking a foot to every breath

Quickly it flushed my cold cheeks with its fiery hue

The new day cost the night it’s prolong grasp, its last hour

Blood drawing a rush to my chest and then hands

It frightened me, my heart beat suddenly quick

I’d taken another day in the shortened timeline of my life

At what cost at what sullen fortune had I been pledged

I walk blindly into what is known to no one living

Yet unknown, I am met at every turn with anticipation

A clever yearning for what, what must be what is already

Something conceived before the clock struck its hand

Every second passes like a shadow, vacant and lifeless

All I could bring to it was my nothingness, my simplicity

Then why did it pass, why did it not find me waiting

I live for the day;   it is every reason I exists

I must begin collecting lost time like a beggar I am

Nothing means more than the second I am in……….

Sorrow sweeps over my conscience like a sharp sword

I realize I’ve cut my life short; absently and unwitting

I frolicked in mental ascensions and immoral intention

When all along time was at my side feeding me eternity
