Schwarzwald

Schwarzwald

A Poem by ale

Can you hear me?
I am lost amongst the lilies
Sitting with the frogs
In the lonesome night.

Can you see me?
I am singing to the branches
With the pines and the ferns
In the cold winter wind.

Can you understand me?
I whisper between leaves
That fell on the porous ground
Among the dead flowers.

Can you smell me?
Follow me along the musty creek
Hop the rocks as soft as stone
And as dark as black.

Can you touch me?
I shiver on the mountain peak
Hidden in the patches of snow
Where you can’t see me.

Can you feel me?
I lurk on the icy wood
That fell centuries ago
Whose logger died.

Can you show me?
The wind speaks your name
Like an Incan warrior
From the city of riches.

Can you hold me?
I want to touch the orchids
As soft as the spider that threads
Tens of webs each day.

Can you remember me?
Spread what I have to give
Fields full of olives and oranges
Bushes of spiny roses.

Can you sing for me?
I don’t want to go to sleep.
I lie awake thinking of you
About how you reached me.
