Adolescent Adorations

Adolescent Adorations

A Poem by Taylor St. Onge
"

Wounded puppy love at its finest.

"

Lips like shards of broken glass

like bittersweet Narcissus and

the remains of a once-proud Egypt.

A faulty cupid’s bow

a sinister smirk of Himeros--

I mistook you for Anteros.  A

simple mistake;

three letters off

three words lost in translation

a declaration with no apparent meaning.

Newage romance, my dear,

is all for naught.

I really enjoyed this poem. I hadn't known who anteros and himeros were, but once I googled it the poem worked quite well.

Constructive crits:
I have a hard time picturing lips like shards of broken glass, because lips are smooth. (I understand the metaphor, but perhaps something else painful that could be viewed as similar to lips would work better. Otherwise this is a pretty great poem. I especially liked the lines, "three letters off/ three words lost in translation/ a declaration with no apparent meaning."
