Portraits of Success

Portraits of Success

A Poem by Brenda Alicia
"

Get up, Stand up. Stand up for you right.

"

What is like to fight for your right?

To stand tall,

Without wavering at the idea,

You may not possess it all

Why do titles grant us platforms to be ourselves?

Without hard-work, are we consciences to those around?

Do portraits of our success make us more likable?

What is like to fight for your right-

Does it entail countless sleepless nights?

Should it mean you're bound to fall?

This notion that we must fight-

is embedded in us

The titles we’ve earned help us get back up

And our portraits are reminders to never give up

The battle is constant

But the rewards are great

To stand up for your right

To stand up and be brave.
