i don't remember

i don't remember

A Poem by B. Lapinski

I don't really remember

recognizing the changing of the seasons

As a child I remember the warmth

or the cold

or the dead leaves of halloween

or the snow

or the rain of spring

but somehow I always missed the transition

from one to the other

One day it would be 10 degrees

the next it would be 70

or 80

and I would be in the pool

with my little

life preserver

floating around

in awe of the feel

of the water

not being able to touch bottom

How could I not have preserved those memories

those simple

natural changes

that changed my body

and my thoughts

falling in love

is the only season

that I ever noticed

It came as a quiet storm

ripped me apart with the winds

made me run

but now

now that I am older

that is the only season that I chase

the only season that I look forward to

I saw geese today

I wonder if they too

are chasing love

Beautiful.

Now that I'm older, the changing of the seasons is what I really love the most. It inspires me to be more dynamic myself, and to not let my life stagnate. That it's OK to be both happy and sad--it's necessary, in fact.

In that vein, you really tied in love so well there in the second half. How love is more than just a feeling, it's like a world all its own. And you transitioned out of it well with the ending, referencing the migrating geese. Well, it at least felt like they were migrating, heading to their breeding grounds in the north as spring and eventually summer come along.

Very good rhythm and flow for free verse. Excellent read. :)

Beautiful...that is the only season that really awakens the quiet, forgotten places within..it's both beautiful and frightening, but still so worthwhile.

I loved this poem! Brought back a lot of memories for me.
As a child, as a adult, yet now I notice more. Great job:).
