\"Death came for me today\" (version 2)

A hypothermic vision i had when I fell through the ice while getting my dog out of the lake a few weeks back... still raw..need to work on it...suggestions?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"Death came for me today" (version 2)

 

  

 Death came to me today with her raw frigid embrace

and I prepared my self for the Halls of my Fathers.

Incredible what goes through your mind as you

wait for her enchanting song to arrive to lead you away…

 

  

Urd only silently stood by, looking away from me.

 

Vernandi spoke not, but wiped my mind clean.

 

Skuld, she… was no where to be seen,

though I waited for her passionate final kiss

that surely would come in the morning’s gloom.

 

Twice I went under...

Twice the ice broke...

as I pushed my dog up on top of the ice, 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 but finally she gained purchase

and was free.

 

Twice more the ice broke and then finally I

was able to claw my way out from the frozen

depths and to this day I am not sure

exactly how it came to be...

that I was spared.

 

Somehow I made it to my house in delirium

and it was then I heard the song...

a sweet death knell beckoning me

to the beyond.

 

"What is it that you would do if you knew you could not fail?

 

Why are you not doing it?

Only in not doing it do you ever really fail.

By not doing, you have already failed.

 

What is your 'It'?"

 

Skuld then appeared through the haze of the song...

and whispered,

"not yet..."

with a smile she kissed me and I passed out on the kitchen floor

shaking in a hypothermic delirium.

 

I awoke...

 

 

 

Only through God’s benevolent Grace am I Alive

Baptized am I again in the Well of Urðr…

 

Only through God’s patient blessings is my dog here still...

Death came to me today with her raw frigid embrace

 

She did not want me, only had messages to relay,

so I have much to do still before I meet my fate…

wow, this poem brings the whole experience into a spiritual light, and is enlightening in the way the
reader is able to go through the same events in a way, and that being how the well chosen wording
brings the entire soul changing event to life, there is a completely different aspect compared to the
first verson, as the first verson struck me as a metaphorical concept, in lightheart prose form, the
entire event is very scarey to think about how death kissed, and to be able to write about it to this
day, pondering the day your reality was shifted to percieve living in a whole new appreciative light.

Great lesson in the end - there certainly is a myriad of things to do now and a new vision on the world I would imagine. What a terrible occurence - I am so glad to hear that you are safe. A great write as is. Thank you.
