A Certain Way

A Certain Way

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

I began a certain way,

on the same day as today;

tomorrow’s yesterday,

where I slept in till late.

It was a tiresome night,

though I was quite alive.

I’d slept till noon knowing

night would come soon.

I stayed awake for a while,

burning the midnight oil.

Writing my troubles away,

with what I’ve yet to say.

And perhaps they’d remain

just as they were, the same.

All my thoughts and memories,

like the leaves, were blown away.

And as I find myself alone,

and having not a place to go,

I will perhaps begin a new life,

searching for my very own light.

I ended it a certain way,

on a different day than today.

And even though you said to stay,

I had to go… before it was too late.
