Facade

Facade

A Story by Bright Eyes

She walks the halls, lonely, but few can see.  Nobody can see through her, but her façade is crystal-clear.  It is strange.  She must live a life of lies so that she does not go back there ever, ever again.  But the lies, they pile up.
She yearns to be held, a longing so strong words cannot describe it.  She needs to be loved, a thing she has not truly seen in her life.  She needs the memories to go away, but they will not for her.  They cannot for the girl.
She tells her family nothing; nothing of her pain, because they would worry.  She tells her “friends” nothing, for they would not believe her, or, if they did, she would be considered a self-pitying coward.  She can barely face the world at school, for everyone looks at her.  She does not know why they look at her, but they do, and it is confusing.  Little does she know that she is a beautiful girl.
But she tells herself she is ugly nonetheless.  For when she looks in the mirror, she sees a fat cow, a hag, a deformed monster.  When she sees pictures, she must tear her eyes away from the disgraceful face that pollutes it, and she apologizes.
She walks down the hall, an empty soul, and disappears into the crowd.
