Prayer

Prayer

A Poem by britishkid16

I hear the drawn out note of your groaning-

                Too deep for words, Father.

You effort this toward me

Because I am warrior strong to you,

You; with the fast flinch of mercy.

Let rain speak tales of dropping

With a voice of wind foreshadowing it

In the head of a tree"

Let rain happen as promised.

Steady my vision

Inside months of this incredible heat, as

I confess that thinking of loving a woman

Is thunder over water.

Let no devil use me for any purpose,

Let water make its way over my nude chest

throbbing with riot, unhealed, as I

make hymn of all this

And repeat the same line over and over with

Humming and rocking.

Center me as the wood suddenly creaks, usher

In your fatherly quiet which is

Hour long and brinks on being unsatisfying.

There is only secular rest left and no words between us, Father.

Does this reach you as the spice of an incense faintly remembered,

But too haunting to pull away from?"

I cannot say Amen
