No way to Happiness

No way to Happiness

A Poem by Colleen C Dunphy
"

a little early morning philosophy

"

There is no way to Happiness,

Happiness IS the way.

You cannot spend your life

waiting for Happiness to find you.

You must make yourself Happy.

You must find your own Happiness along the way.

Most people spend their lives living in

the penumbra of Happiness.

They never try to reach for anything more.

Happiness is achievable, but

it wont find you.

You must find happiness.

For me, Happiness is:

Her smile that lights up her whole face.

Spending hours past bedtime just talking to her.

Seeing her on stage knowing how hard she works to be there.

Getting a message from her out of the blue.

Happiness is:

Petting my dog and seeing his tail wag.

Getting puppy kisses.

Seeing how happy he is just to see me.

His cute puppy smile.

Happiness is:

A friend that is always there.

Hugs when you need them the most.

A job that makes you happy.

Helping a stranger on the street.

Happiness is:

Family, in the good times and the bad.

Love. The beginning, the middle and even the end.

Hope, for a better future for our country.

Trust in a better tomorrow for our children.

Happiness is:

The little things from day to day.

A great cup of chai from starbucks.

A hot motorcycle, ridden by a hot woman.

A cold beer on a hot day.

Happiness is:

Being able to do what we love.

Write.

Read.

Love.

Happiness is:

Living.

I agree with another comment here, about people whining about life. Everybody makes their own happiness.

Really loved this, the message, the way you've written it. It's the simple things that make it all worthwhile. Oh, and you use "penumbra". I like it when people use words you never hear.

I needed this today; seems everyone is on a downer. Dramatics are everywhere all of a sudden. So thanks! I agree with all of it. You can't just sit there in the corner and wait for good things to happen. You have to get up and go LIVE. My happiness? When I see my son learn how to do something new. That is priceless.

Oh this is just lovely!!!

And very true... so very true!

We must find happiness in what
we do, where we are, what we
have... and live with gratitude

... or what's the point?!

It's not always easy, this is true...
but it really is within our power to
change how we perceive things, how
we feel and how we proceed... it's taken
me years to understand and fully embrace
this concept. It's in us..... it's there....
that eternal flame...

waiting to be found ! :)

Thank you for this awesome poem..
Very inspirational and well written!

Fantastically put! I have a message that I keep taped to my bedroom door. "In the Pursuit of Happiness, the difficulty lies in knowing when you have caught up."

I think often we ASSume happiness is "something we don't have" but most often, we have had it all along. (Wasn't this the "message" behind the Wizard of Oz?)

To better appreciate your life, look around at someone else's! If you think you're hungry, look to a homeless guy; I'll bet you aren't as hungry anymore. And, by the same token, the homeless guy probably sees starvation that makes him feel full suddenly.
Everything is relative.

Happiness is:
Living.

Well-put, well-thought out, and well-written.
Great job! Terrific write!
