Set Them Free

Set Them Free

A Poem by bskiffington

There's no way out once you've been caught
and you know it'll take all that you've got
to not let this crush you under it's weight
You've got to get out before it's too late

Sometimes it doesn't work out the way you plan
But that's okay, you've got to understand
It's not your fault, nothing last's forever
It will hurt, but you know that it'll get better

Life is give and take, sometimes you can't do both
and in this life you live it's not as easy as you'd hope
You have to learn how to accept the truth first
before you can learn how to face the hurt

And if you love someone you have to set them free
Even though it hurts you, that's the way it's gotta be
And maybe someday you'll come back to me
But if you don't then it wasn't meant to be

This is so sad. So breaking. So beautiful. It breathes and lives a life that is difficult to get out of a piece of writing. I am curious if this has a personal tie to you because I can't find anything that would indicate otherwise.
I really enjoyed the bittersweet aspect of this. It feels so sad but there is a glimmer, a spark of hope.
The rhyming threw me for a bit of a loop. Some of them fit perfectly while some of them were half rhymes. I understand that there are some things that just don't fit in with what you are trying to say. You did really well.
Personally, this felt to me like it could have been done very well in a story. I would love to read that. As it is, it was done very well. Good job.
