Ode, to Her

Ode, to Her

 Ode, to Her

Sleep, little girl, close your eyes.

Sleep, little girl

Sleep, for me

despite the shadow that casts itself upon your weary soul.

Sleep, and when you sleep, dream

Dream of me and of all of the hopes that I have for you

of all of the things that I know you can be

of all the days that I dream of us sharing

in a future not as distant

as your soul-shadow would have you believe.

So, sleep.

I know, in my small way, what it is

that the darkness brings

when you’re all alone

and can see nothing but a vast, black beyond in your future and your past

but I must ask of you a courage that I myself am still discovering

in the dusty, neglected mires of my heart.

So sleep, and take care to wake up.

Sleep, and know that for every tear you shed, you will be blessed tenfold

Sleep, eat, drink, and be merry, and know

That your heart and mine"forever connected

through that infinitesimal thread of love and life"beat

to each other’s rhythm

and will remain, through time and space, tightly bound

weathering the storms that life may bring.

And for the love of all the goodness that I know is in your soul, keep strong

So sleep, but wake up, because this, too, shall pass away.

Your Sister is lucky to have you care for her so much. From the hopes you have for her to the advice you give especially at the end, you really bring out the way siblings should think of each.
one question though, the title, what does Ode mean??
