![]() you look familiarA Poem by Caitlin
At the end of the stretch of loneliness
I promise you there will be a vast glow of just the person you thought you wanted They extend their hands like ramps, pressed against you Catching your bones before your legs gave out Just after miles of quivering knees But that glow that you stared at with such immensity, which made needles look dull Will be nothing but that one light bulb flickering amongst a string of Christmas lights They only last a season, of course, the coldest season of all And it can only light up a gruesome home for so long Until your neighbors judge you for leaving them up past March I think we all look for light bulbs We call our selves stud finders But hang up our shelves pretty damn crooked We dress trash up to look like vinyl records And play them until the needle breaks We buy flower pots and a watering can But forget the seeds. We come out of life changing battles And take in people who have never heard of a shower People call us warriors And we’re still treasuring a dim light bulb A candle with no wick Like wearing $100 shoes that give you blisters every time you wear them Idolizing a scene from a movie you can’t bear to watch We called their hands ramps But we see ourselves roll down the hill There is nothing worse than escaping trauma just to fall back into the same trenches that imprinted on you. © 2022 CaitlinAuthor's Note
