A girl I knew

A girl I knew

A Poem by Caitlin

there was a girl I knew of back in high school

she didn’t dress for the male gaze

her smile was so wide that when her lips stretched, the school hallways echoed of a church choir

she sat in the back row of the classroom my sisters boyfriend taught in

I once saw her freckles in passing and I wanted to connect myself with her constellations

she would arrive at school before everyone else and draw in the hallway on the fourth floor

her legs went on for miles across the universe

facebook says she went to a local college after graduation

her eyes now look like a silent film with a sad ending

i heard she had a sad ending

and there she is, every morning

staring back at me
