Depression

My fight with heartbreak and depression

It creeps up slowly unlike anything else

                   Unexpected in many of ways

                     Unknown to the ignorant

                          Blinding to the few

   It's something that can't be truly understood from a distance

           Carrying with it a common misconception

                      It is seen as an excuse

                 A way to justify deep sadness

            A label for those with low self esteem

               Or a disorder for the weak minded

               Who have been told to suck it up

                 But it's much more than that

      It's a disease that takes hundreds of lives

             Fueled by expectations and failures

         Chained to our lives as if fate did it itself

   Cause by pressure, heartbreak, and lost dreams

                Enslaving the mind to plunge it

                    into the depths of misery

      Followed by unbearable pain and heartache

         Finding it's way into the minds of all people

                          Not concerned with

                fame, money, or achievements

                      It affects all that it can

                   It can take a life if u let it

                It can ruin a future if allowed

           Bring the mightiest of people down

                         Depression is real.

                    Realer then most believe 

           It's truly the hardest enemy to face

         It stares you down taking away all hope

           Tells you that life can't get any better

             Bringing you to the lowest of lows

           Hurting you till hurt is a close friend

             This depression consumes me too

   It wraps around me trying to take my last breath

           Bound to me with unrivaled strength

                       Leaving me in despair

                      But it can be defeated

             Defeated as David defeated Goliath

                     Slain like a raging dragon

               It's a fight that takes all my heart

      Only escaping it when I rest my eyes to sleep

        It's tried to take my life numerous of times

         Taking me in ways I could never imagine

             Feeling feelings I never knew existed

                          I have depression.

           But i won't let it control me any longer

                            It's time is up

                     It's control has faded

                  My life will not be wasted

                   It will be lived to the full

 

             Heartbreak may take my heart

                  But it will not take my life

                              I will fight...
