Pain and Strife

Pain and Strife

A Poem by The Disconsolate Muse

In the midst of internal strife
We focus on the only thing of
reality
The pain that only we can
guarantee
The biting and slashing of teeth
Signaling just another defeat
But still, we cling to what is real
As relief from the internal pain
that we try to conceal
We bite and slash
To reach out to victory that we
cannot grasp
We reach the area of grey
through the key of pain
The one where neither victory or
defeat are present
We grasp the key for our dear life
As relief from the ever present
internal strife
And in the end, we are left with
the reality that we create for
ourselves- pain

You say, "We reach the are of grey through the key of pain. The one where neither victory or defeat are present." But if we are succumbing to pain then we have already lost and have accepted defeat.
