summer

summer

A Poem by Anonymous 79
"

part 4 of my series

"
falling in love and a bonfire at night
my arm around your shoulders, "she'll be alright"
your friend didn't like me, but that's fine
I didn't need her permission because your heart was mine

I was there when she handed you the note
you crumpled the paper and wouldn't tell me what she wrote
you might have been crying but I saw fire in your eyes
you were burning angrily because she cut the ties

falling out of friendship and a bonfire at night
you cried on my shoulder, "will you be alright?"
you said "no, I think she hates me"
"she shouldn't be angry just because you're dating me"

you stopped in the hall every time you saw her
like you wanted her to say you could go back to what you were
laughing on her front lawn, throwing water balloons
but your summer didn't come that soon

the pieces fell into place at a bonfire at night
she tapped you on the shoulder in the dim light
she was only there because she had to be
she wasn't going to come, but she needed to say sorry

you want to take her back, I see it in your eyes
but instead you turn your back, take a drink, and I see the lie:
broken heart, lost in the dark under the shadow sky
and suddenly I know why she really said goodbye
