What is a Thesis statement?

A thesis statement is a sentence that mentions what the essay is going to be about. It gives a structure to the essay and summarizes it. Furthermore, it tells the audience what stance you are planning on taking.

Where can you find a Thesis statement?

A thesis statement is usually found in essays, dissertations and other course works. You can also find them in debates, speeches and perhaps formal documents.

Is a Thesis statement really important?

The thesis statement is an integral part of your writing, it drives your entire essay. It gives the reader a clear of what is going to come. Many readers decide keeping the thesis sentence in mind whether they want to read the entire essay. It is extremely necessary to have a compelling thesis statement so that your audience is not confused and reads the entirety of your essay.

Since a thesis sentence holds immense importance when writing, we are going to look at a complete guide on how you can compose an impressive thesis statement.

How to write a Thesis statement?

A thesis statement does not have any formula. It depends on the nature of your essay. There are three ways you can write a thesis sentence depending on the type of text you’re writing it for:

·         If you’re writing a persuasive essay, the thesis statement must include the topic you’re writing on. Additionally, it must include the stance you are taking then a brief mention of why you are right.

·         If you’re writing an analytical paper, your thesis statement must include the mention of the topic and what components you are going to analyze. You can mention all the points of focus in your thesis statement.

·         If you are writing an essay to explain or inform you will include the topic along with the pieces of information you are going to write in your essay. A brief mention of your points will be enough.

To write a thesis statement you can reduce your topic to a question, for example if your topic is “Difficulties of high school students” you can propose a question saying “What problems does an average high school student face?” and then the next step is to answer it. Answer your question using keywords and this can be used as a thesis statement.  Similarly, you can also form a thesis statement using just a single point that encompasses everything, you don’t have to always mention all the valid points in your thesis statement. If your paper is longer then write one very valid point that correlates to every other point.

What does a good thesis statement look like?

Here are some indicators of a great thesis statement:

·       The length of your thesis statement depends upon your essay, if you’re going to include 3-4 points your thesis will obviously be longer. The length does not depict quality. But your thesis statement is a precise sentence that sums up the entire essay. It can contain two types of clauses an independent that is the topic or your claim on the topic and a dependent clause that gives the supporting details to your claim. Your thesis statement should ideally be around 20-40 words and may stretch up to two lines.

·       The placement of your thesis sentence is crucial, you cannot just place it anywhere. It will loose its purpose if it is misplaced. For example, if it is placed in the middle of your essay the entire purpose of introducing your topic and giving a structure to your sentence will be wasted. A thesis statement is intended to be placed in the first paragraph. It is called an introductory paragraph just because you introduce the topic and points here using your thesis sentence. Even in your introductory paragraph a desirable place to note it will be after a couple of sentences. You can even end your introductory paragraph using a thesis statement.

·        Your thesis sentence should be strong. Your thesis statement should have an unwavering voice. If you are making a point stick to it do not put in conflicting points if it is not a comparison. This will confuse your reader and will make your overall essay, weak.

·        Precision is key, this a thesis statement not a thesis paragraph, do not add unnecessary details. This make your thesis weak. Keep it to the point as your reader does not want to read stories but direct statements. Avoid making vague statements, do not oversimplify phenomenons but dive deep into the details.

·       Do not just rely on observations for your essays, give a justification of your points. This will make your thesis stronger as readers will know that there is more to the story and will continue reading it to find out.

·       Make your topic interesting, use the art of writing to hook your reader’s attention. A thesis sentence can solely make the reader continue even if the topic is boring. Your approach to the essay should be unique so readers do not get bored reading the same sets of opinions they have been hearing for decades. If possible, add spice to your thesis sentence. Make it a little controversial by making bold statements. People love a little controversy and will be curious to see how you have maintained it.

·       Do not saturate your thesis statement by putting in multiple main ideas. If you give your audience more than one main idea, they will be conflicted and confused as which one is the most important one. If it is extremely important to add more than one main idea you can do it by linking up the two main ideas as if they are a continuation.

·      Do not copy. Be your original self and avoid copying statements from others.

It is true that your thesis sentence takes up most of your time and is probably the trickiest part of your essay. It is the part that will make your essay shine if written with intellect. Do not neglect your thesis statement, a weak thesis sentence can put your entire essay in jeopardy as people will not read past the introductory paragraph. One of many of its uses you can say a thesis sentence markets your essay and makes it worthwhile.

If you are a student, you are very well acquainted with thesis statements. Every essay you write has to have a thesis statement. You know the importance of it and how it is very technical not just the statement but the entire essay. As you grow up it gets more and more difficult to do your course work as they demand you to possess the technical writing skills. When you enroll in a college you find out you’ll have to write dissertations which is the monster of all course works. It is very difficult and students often are lost. They don’t know where to begin. One great solution for them is to get dissertation help. There are many academic services available that can ease all their worries and provide them expert help for their dissertations. All they need to do is choose the most reliable website which is reasonable and does not cost you a large sum of money.
