Ol' Blue Eyes

Ol' Blue Eyes

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

More River Musings - "Who is he, say the youngsters)

"
I thought of you today,
Kingfisher passed me by.
So speedily he flew,
beneath a grieving sky.

That flash of vivid hue
which took me by surprise,
reminded me of you
and the blueness in your eyes.

I found myself in awe
and wished you'd sang for me,
of tender, truthful love,
beside this willow tree.

A harmonious description of love, nature and tranquility. Aren't kingfishers one of the loveliest birds on this planet? Lurid, enticing and quick to fly off- much like certain moments of life.

The wistfulness of the concluding verses is well-expressed. Poetry with notes of longing add to its extant lyricism.

You're on a spree of great poetry. Keep it up!
Best,
M.

How very much I love Ol' Blue Eyes myself, and your kingfisher comparison was absolutely stunning. If anything could put my heart at ease, it is this. Kudos to you for being so very inspired and inspirational all at once.

Here in America, "Ol Blue eyes" is a common reference to Frank Sinatra. Whether he had anything to do with this lovely poem, I know not, but the blue of the Kingfisher is probably more magnificent. (And sings at least as well)

The one I know used to live in Palm Springs. I met his mom, and have a decanter he gave my Dad.
I also get to watch the scrub jays. Beautiful birds, but they are very raucous!

Lucky you Jon. What a voice. Indeed this poem a nod to him. Thank you.

I love the use of a kingfisher in this one and of the melancholy feel of a love that took flight before it could begin.

Thank you Carolynn. Love that bird. Don't see them often enough.

In my country, "Ol' Blue Eyes" could only be Frank Sinatra--who did do a bit of singing.
Lovely, kinda dreamy poem, good poetess!
