Boys and Puddles

Boys and Puddles

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( goes without saying doesn't it? and no kidding this is exactly how it happened)

"
A muddy puddle in the park
attracts a boy's attention.
He pauses first to look at it
unsure of its dimensions.

He finds a stick to poke at it
to ascertain its depth
and from the cheeky grin he gives
you know he'll soon get wet.

His welly boots are clean and new,
for sure they must be tested,
for why would Mum invest her cash,
his thoughts ran uncontested.

And Mum is chatting with her friends
so hasn't seen the threat.
In any case the dog's arrived
and Mischief is their pet.

What happened next is no surprise,
the hound's jumped up to greet him.
He lost his balance and fell in
and now they're busy splashing.

From head to toe are soaking clothes
and Mischief's tail is wagging,
but Mum's expression tells it all,
she's on her way and fuming.

A very pleasant poem, to say the least. Great rhyming structure, also. It was a nice read, for sure.

You're very welcome
All a boy has to remember Chris, is to test its not deeper than his willies are high, and not to end up sitting in it. The rest all comes naturally to us. Even to this day, I still get the temptation to run, jump and splash it. Sometimes I even pay attention to it, but mostly not :)

Oh yes Lorry. Protect the crown jewels from the cold and wet. Always test the depth (lol). Thank you.. read more
Oh, well, if you 'accidentally' got wet anyhow...why not go all out?
Fortunately for my children, I understood that.
Lighten up, fuming mom!
Remember this:
Puddles are made for children,
Who wearing their wellie boots,
May splish, and splash, fuddle and muddle,
Without ever caring two hoots.
Run through, step over, jump in, or stand,
The fun never ceases to be.
Puddles are made for Children,
Children are made to be free.

Haha very cute
On one freezing winter occasion, we told our two yr. old not to jump on the frozen duck pond (quite shallow) which he did, went through and came up sputtering and all covered in duck stuff
We didn't steam but he certainly did
A funny reminder

Girls like those puddles too. Maybe boys more. My grandchildren love the puddles. Not around, straight through always. Thank you Chris for sharing the amazing poetry. I enjoyed this one.
