Cold Tea/Warm Heart

Cold Tea/Warm Heart

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Political , but you travel wherever you want to go

"
the clock stopped
in the Dock today

It stopped while waiting
breakfast tea
and for an hour maybe
more
i lost all track of passing
time

i gazed upon the brooding
clouds
sailing swiftly on a sea
breaking waves of brackish grey
yet with a thread of hopeful
blue
the tree tops swayed from
left to right
the river reeds were tuned
in too

bending in the morning breeze
teasing teasing by degrees

the Union flag was flying
high
though where was I
I do not know
restless me my compass spins
homeless me where do I go

an hour passed an older me
the tea before me had grown
cold
I’d wandered freely in my
mind
with thoughts that ranged
from black to gold

Chris,

I sit, this morning at 10 to 7 am on what appears is going to be a lovely moon-worship day, sipping my coffee (love hot tea by the as my Me-ma made us hot tea each and every morning when I was a kid) in quite contemplation of what this day will bring that has already been brightened by this wonderfully inspiring piece of excellent Poetry ... Thank you for sharing ...

yes thank you, we always learn something new.
Unless the tree tops swaying from left to right is symbolic, I can't find anything political in this one.

I relate to this. I often lose myself and when I do, I'm typically outside. I feel attuned to natural rhythms. They put my mind in default mode and I exit the vehicle. Water lapping, rustling leaves, cicadas, waves - I come back and feel lucky to commune with it all.

I have enjoyed the pause, the stillness, the wandering, the slow motion of this piece. I especially like 'an hour passed - an older me'. Nicely written

you have such a beautiful view from that side of the pond and being so close to it, how can you not get lost in it while your tea grows cold- so grateful you write of it so we can also go where you go. Such a wonderful writer. :)

I would say that these were beautiful moments of exploration and deep reverie. These were moments when you were fully tuned in to yourself, your thoughts, your being and also the divine part of your surroundings, the one that bestows positive energy and healing. When you returned to the reality, the tea had grown cold but you came back enriched and perhaps full of wonderment. I loved the way you described the clouds and the waves. As always, your poetry leaves such a lasting impression, dear Chris.

What a wonderful expression of how the mind at times stops time and disappears to palaces unknown leaving one disoriented and confused upon the return. The use of tea to measure the passing of time was ingenious and worked so well.
