Alexander and Diogenes

A Story by Irish Maths

Alexander and Diogenes

Alexander goes to meet Diogenes, the sage.

Diogenes asks him, Where are you going?

Alexander says, “I am going to conquer Asia Minor.”

“And then what,” asks Diogenes.

“Then I am going to conquer India.”

“And then what,” asks Diogenes.

“Then I am going to conquer the world.”

“And then what,” asks Diogenes.

“And then I shall rest,” says Alexander.

“I am already resting,” says Diogenes. “Come join me if you will. You do not need to go to so much trouble just to earn a little rest. You can rest now if you want to.”
