mortality

mortality

A Poem by Chad Halle

i met
a vampyr.
she had pale
skin and thin, dark
red lips. somehow
she managed to get
out in the sun-
light. she
asked for the
time, i didn't
know. and
last night
as i slept,
she hunted
me
down,
she
sucked
my
bones
dry.
i wake
up in a cold
sweat,
confused,
unfocused,
helpless.
this is just
an average
day.
but once in the
shower i notice
two punctures
which begin to
puss. i do my
best to squeeze
all the puss
out from the
holes- digging in
with all my
strength and
uncut
nails so that
i don't live
forever.

This is another excellent piece. I love how you add that little bit of grit. It's like when you're eating a sour cream based dip and find something in it a little crunchy... it's still tastes the same but you wonder.. 'what the hell was that?'

I am not normally one for the way a piece looks compared to how it works, but there is something about the physical manner in which you write that gives it a certain realist rawness as opposed to the uncompromising fluff of various forms.

With so many people worrying that they will die too soon, I oft wonder if they know the fear of living too long.
