i dreamed i saw jack kerouac last night

A Poem by Chad Halle
"

based on the folk song "dreamed i saw joe hill"...numerous others

"

i dreamed i saw jack
keroauc last
night, alive as you
and me. "i never died,"
said he. "i never
died," said he.
i pulled over
my car, for he held out
his hand, he was
hitch-hikin
across this here land. "i
never died," said
he. "what ever
happened to my dear
country?," he asked
me. "have i lost
everything?"
"i never died," said he.
tired were his eyes, full
of whiskey
pills and
weed. "i never
died," he tells
me. "i'm every drifter
with a bottle in
his hand, every son with
his mother in his
heart, i'm every
insider who wants
out, and anyone who
would like a fresh
start." as he began
to pass
out, he also begun to
disappear- in
vision and from
communication.
just before he
became a
ghost of the night- a ghost
of the sky, he returns to
look me in
the eye;
"i never died,"
said he. "i never
died," said he.

WOW! That was an excellent piece----so well written, honest, and a great ode to Jackie. :)
