The TrailA Poem by ckmI followed the trail I was told I was good at following I was told I could achieve anything Only if I followed instructions. I did as I was told. But where am I now? I can only feel a bleak environ surrounding me. The abyss threatens to draw me into its emptiness. The steep mountains impose their will on me. I try to break free from the shackles But the creepers entwine me And pin me to the rough pebbles. The gurgling stream flows by. The owls call and hoot. The leaves rustle. I stare. I cry. But no sound is emitted. I look around. I try to feel my way up the treacherous mountain road, In search of a new path. The stars mock my efforts As the moon glides behind the clouds. But I persist. My hands bleed. My tired feet buckle under my weight. Loneliness envelops me. Guides have abandoned me. Needs have conquered my senses. Yet I trudge along In search of the path.
