The Rescuer

an ode to all animal rescuers!

The Rescuer

She is a woman with a fierce love for animals and every waking moment of her life is consumed

By her single handed loyalty to the weak and abused souls who do not have a choice of their final fate

The computer is her sword and she wields it mightily all day long trying to make a difference

She dreams of one day saving them all and creating a forever rest stop, a place with no fears of tiny crates or being used as bait

This rescuer stays haunted by the visions of the torture that she has witnessed

Yet, instead of making her turn away, it only makes her fight harder for their rights

Begging other compassionate people to help pull these babies out of their hell

Always asking kind souls to foster these orphans until they can find their way out of their plight

She struggles with her own personal demons, yet manages to push them aside

Always trying to maintain a balance of harmony with other rescuers like herself

Fighting to weed out the fakes and turning a deaf ear to others telling her ugly things

Spending her hard earned money on raising donations, animal rescue is so not about the wealth

The rewards come to her when the rescued looks deeply into its rescuer’s eyes

The sweet smell of warm puppy breath is let out with a contented sigh

The baby snuggles ever closer to the person who he now knows as hero

Where now in his new life, he is loved and adored and no longer looks back to his past, where he once believed that his worth amounted to zero
