Jaiyda's Recovery

Jaiyda's Recovery

A Story by Samantha Marie Blanton

“ ‘No! Stop!’“ Jaiyda started to say, “and then I wake up.”

Jaiyda was a 15 year old girl who has been severely abused and molested since she was three years old.  When she was born her mother had tried to kill her by trying to have an abortion.  Her mother had the abortion but she failed to realize that she was having twins.  Jaiyda survived the abortion.

When she was four years old her mother allowed her boyfriend to abuse and sexually assaulted four year old Jaiyda.  When Jaiyda went to school the very next day, her teacher, Mrs. Cahill, saw the bruises on Jaiydas’ face and arms.

“Jaiyda, Will you please come up here?” Mrs. Cahill asked looking very concerned.

Jaiyda slowly got up out of her chair and walked up to where Mrs Cahill was sitting.

“Yes Mrs. Cahill?”  Jaiyda asked with tears starting to roll down her cheeks.

“I have been watching you and I am a little concerned about you.”

     “Why is that,” Jaiyda asked.

“you have bruises on your face and your arms,”

“uhhhhh,” Jaiyda froze and didn’t know what to say, “I fell down the stairs at home,”

“Jaiyda those are not from falling down the stairs.  Would you like to talk in private?”

Jaiyda looked at Mrs. Cahill and Mrs. Cahill took her hand and they walked out into the hall.

“Now, Jaiyda, what is going on?  You can talk to me.”

“My mommy and new daddy hurt me,” Jaiyda said as the tears came rolling down even more.

“What do you mean they hurt you?  Point to where they hurt you.”

Jaiyda was now bawling and pointed to her stomach, her neck, her arms, her legs, and her no no spot.  Jaiyda had no idea what was going to happen.

That day Mrs.Cahill took Jaiyda to the hospital to have a rape kit done.  In deed she was raped.

Mrs. Cahill decided to call Children Services on her mother and ‘New’ father.  The authorities were as well called and met children services at their house.

     Deputy Statlerknocked  on the door.

“Police! Open up!”

They refused to open the door.  Deputy Statler kicked in the door and found Jaiydas mother and father sitting on floor shooting up heroine and smoking meth and heroine.

“ DavidReed?” Deputy Statler asked.

“ What seems to be the problem osifer,”

“ You’re under arrest for Child Abuse and Neglect and Child Molestation.  I need you to come with me,”

“NO, YOU CAN’T TAKE HIM!” Anya screamed high on heroine and meth.

“Anya Reed?”

“Yes osifer,”

“You’re under arrest for child abuse and neglect,”

Jaiydastanded with Lisa from children services as she watched the police take her parents away.  Nobody will Ever hurt her again.

It wouldn’t be long before four year old Jaiyda would be placed in a safe environment.  Jaiyda’s Uncle Mark and Aunt Liz agreed to adopt her and make her part of their family.  Mark and Liz had 4 children of their own.  Brayden was 25 and was married and moved into his own place.  Hailey was 18 and in her senior year of high school.  Hayden was 15 and a freshman in high school.  Lauryn was five years old.

Jaiyda thought it was the greatest thing.  Lauryn and Jaiyda became best friends.  Who would have thought that she would find a best friend.  Every night was a sleep over for those girls.  For Hailey, Jaiyda was her little princess.  Jaiyda just loved her big cousin to pieces.  Hailey always used to tuck her in at night when she was a baby.

With Jaiyda now living with her aunt and uncle and her four older cousins she would be safe and protected.

When Jaiyda turned 15 years old she suddenly started having flashbacks and night terrors and her Aunt and Uncle started sending her to a psychiatrist and express how she was feeling.  She felt so bad because her aunt and uncle had to continuously wake her up from her night terrors that she had.  Lauryn and Jaiyda were the last 2 children in the house.  The older three had gotten their own place.

Lauryn even had to wake her up from them several times.  Jaiyda missed everything that she used to love.  She used to sing and dance and read and write but she didn’t want to do it anymore.

“ Well, Jaiyda from everything you have told me I have come to the conclusion that you have a mental illness,” Dr. Wallace said.

“What is a mental illness?” Jaiyda asked.

“A mental illness is various forms of psychosis or severe neurosis.  You are more towards Neurosis.  Neurosis is a functional disorder in which feelings of anxiety, obsessional thoughts, compulsive acts and physical complaints without objective evidence or disease in various degrees and patterns dominate the personality.”

“Oh, so what is my mental illness?”

“You are diagnosed with Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.”

Jaiyda looked confused and not sure what to think.  She just looked at Dr. Wallace and the tears just started rolling.

“Jaiyda, its okay to have a mental illness.  I want you to do something for me.  There is a place that helps people just like you.  People with a mental illness.  It’s called Promoting Hope.  There are really nice people there.  I will write you a referral and you can go in first thing in the morning.”

Jaiyda thought long and hard. So many questions kept going through her head…

“Why is this happening to me?”

“Why do bad things happen to good people?”

“What have I don’t to deserve this?”

So many questions that she needed answered.  So many things that she didn’t know.  So many things that she needed the answer to.

The next morningJaiyda woke up with a lot of energy.  She got showered and dressed.  She had the most beautiful long brown hair and the most beautiful golden hazel eyes.  Her aunt and uncle dropped both her and Lauryn off at Promoting Hope.  They walked in together.

Lauryn also suffers from a mental illness.  Lauryn had bipolar, depression, and anxiety.  So Mark and Liz had experience with mental illness.  And they knew what to do.

“May I help you?” a young lady at the front desk asked.  She had blue eyes and long blonde hair.

“um, yes…”Jaiyda started, “we would like to become members.  My psychiatrist referred me to here”

“of course,  My name is Terry and I am the receptionist.” The young lady said, “follow me ladies.”

Jaiyda and Lauryn followed Terry down a hallway into a room.

Knock Knock

“come in,” Said a voice on the other side of the door.

“Katie, this is Jaiyda and Lauryn Hamilton.  They would like to become members.  Their psychiatrist referred them.”

“have a seat ladies.”

Two hours passed and they were finally members.  Katie showed the girls the music room, the art room, the quiet room, the great room and everything.

Over in the cafeteria, sat a young lady who seemed to be about the same age.  The girls walked over there and sat down and started talking to this young lady.

“Hello, I’m Jaiyda and this is my cousin Lauryn. “ they started.

“Hi I’m Haiydyn,” the girl started. “its spelled differently.  Its spelled H-A-I-Y-D-Y-N”

“I like that name,” Lauryn started, “I have a 26 year old sister named Hayden only she spells hers H-A-Y-D-E-N. “

“that’s awesome….hey im getting ready to go out a smoke…would you like to join me?” Haiydyn asked.

“we don’t smoke but we would be glad to join you.” Jaiyda said.

“come on, have one…”

The girls were hesitant but took one and all it took was them to take 1 hit and they were hooked.

“Hey, my parents are gone for the night…would you girls like to come over for a sleep over?” Haiydyn asked.

“I don’t want to I have to babysit my nieces tonight…but maybe Jaiyda would like to.” Lauryn said kind of bummed.

Jaiyda pulled out her phone and called Aunt Liz.

“hey aunt liz, can I go to my new friends house for the night?”

“yes, as long as you keep me updated through out the night so I know nothing happened to you,”

5:00 hit and Jaiyda and Haiydyn started walking to Haiydyns house.  She lived in a nice white house with beautiful rose bushes all around it.

They walked into the house.  And Jaiyda smelled something weird.

“whats that smell?” Jaiyda asked.

“you’re serious? You don’t know what marijuana is?”

“I’ve never smoked it so no I don’t know,” jaiyda said embarrassed.

“well we are gonna turn you into a pot head just like us.” Haiydyn said.

Haiydyn pulled out a bong from under the couch and put a bud into the bong and let it up.

“Here Jaiyda, you do it like this.  Put your mouth over this and light it right her then you suck and pull this thing out,”

Jaiyda hesitated and took the bong.  She did exactly what Haiydyn told her to do.  She held it in then let it out with a cough.

Jaiyda took one hit and was addicted.  She was always afraid that she would turn out like her mother and father when she was little.  Her mother and father were major drug addicts when she was little.  Several months passed and Jaiydawas addicted to more and more drugs (heroine, marijuana, meth, cocaine, crack) you name it she became addicted to it.  It was almost like Jaiyda was living with Haiydyn now.  She hadn’t been home with her aunt and uncle and cousin lauryn in months.

One day Jaiyda received a phone call from her aunt liz.

“Hello?” Jaiyda answered all stung out on drugs.

“Jaiyda Aurora! I need you at the hospital now!!! Lauryn is in the hospital delivering her baby.”

“WHAT?! WHY DIDN’T ANYONE EVEN TELL ME SHE WAS PREGNANT???” Jaiyda screamed into the phone.

“You were all busy getting high on drugs we didn’t want you in Madelyn’s life all high on drugs,”

Jaiyda thought long and hard.  The tears once again came rolling down her face.  She didn’t know what to do.  She was so addicted that she couldn’t stop.  She needed help.  She called her older cousin Hailey and vented to her.

“Hailey, I really don’t know what to do?”

“Well. Do you miss Aunt Liz and Uncle Mark?  Do you miss Lauryn? Do you miss being there everyday?”

“well yes,” Jaiyda started.

“Then there’s your answer…you need to go back to Aunt Liz’s and help Lauryn with Madelyn.  Lauryn needs all the help she can get.”

“okay, thanks Hailey for talking to me,”

“Anytime Princess.”

Jaiyda called Aunt Liz back and told her she is ready to get help. She was ready to give up the drugs for good.  She wanted to be in her nieces life.  She wants to get her life finally back together.  Aunt Liz drove to pick up Jaiyda and Jaiyda began her rehab.  She stopped doing drugs cold turkey.  Finally after becoming clean she wrote about everything she had gone through and everything she had lost when she was on drugs.

“ After I finally realized what was more important in my life I finally became clean.  My cousin Lauryn had a baby and named her Madelyn.  That little girl means more to me then you will ever know.  She is my love, my life, my everything.  With that being said I leave you with this quote ‘Every time you see a shooting star, be proud of who you really are.  Do in your heart what you know is right and you too can be can Arabian Knight’ Thank you”
