Invisible Kid

Invisible Kid

A Poem by Marie Harrison

A poem voiced to a young lady's parents.

Invisible Kid

Carefully

I apply my make-up,

to look beautiful to

the world around me.

Thoughtfully,

I select the words

that will represent me in

this world that I take part in.

Meticulously,

I choose which clothes to wear

ones that will provoke reaction from

the people that surround

me in this world.

These details take too much time

for you to take notice.

There are too many important

tasks for us to accomplish

together in this world.

Don't you want to

get to know the

real me?

Don't you want to see how

beautiful I am to

those around me?

Don't you want to read

the thoughts of mine

that people cherish so

much in this world?

You ask my opinions

but when I give them freely,

they provoke your rage

deep within your being.

Do I always have to hide

 or be ashamed to

show the vulnerable

 side of me to you?

Will I always have

to be invisible to you?

I want to scream!

I want to shout out on

top of the highest mountain

that I'm alive,

and you prefer to close

your eyes and ears to me.

You prefer for me to disappear,

to hide deep within the scene

of things in this world.

You prefer for me

to remain invisible to you forever.

Why would you want to hide

your finest creation?

Why would you want

an invisible me?

Oh how many wander through life in the invisible... wanting so much to have the attention or affection of others, only to end up feeling completely alone.. So many of us have been there.. can relate to your words.. the longing.. Beautifully bittersweet...

I love this! The way that she wants the attention of others, but they only act as if she is no one... Beautiful! Great work!

Thats so beautiful, but thats sad, living invisible in this world and never gets attention, the world is always cruel, some people get to have more attention while others don't . Great Work!!

Very true. I always think how cruel it's to hide what that is all of you in this world. Nicely said. And I also love how you stick one style of writing. I wish I could stick to one style. That never seems to happen. :(

Keep writing.

Lovely Marie. That picture is actually on the cover to my wedding album.

Wow I figured this was about an uncaring boyfriend until I finished the poem and looked back at its title. Really a great work, a great display of the anger we feel when we try to impress someone and it all proves fruitless. Great write.

This is a perfect example of the need to fit in.

Never can a woman remain invisible to those that truely love her, the trappings of life are incidental to the woman within. lovely and thoughtful poem
