William

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A love poem.

"

William

Under the oak tree

Lounging with friends

By the creek,

Me resting my head

In your lap,

Staring at the sunlight

Shining through the

Leaves of the tree

As the sound of water

Trickled by,

Tenderly you

Combed your

Fingers through

My hair,

And laughed when

They couldn’t

Make it through

My curls,

I laughed too

And thumped your leg

Because it hurt,

You looked at

Me with your

Dark green eyes

Surrounded by the

Longest brown

Eyelashes

I’ve ever seen on

A man,

And said

In your most

Sincere voice,

You’re beautiful,

You know,

Just beautiful!

Of all the moments

In my life,

That one stands

Out for me

More than

Most others.

It was a heartfelt

Expression

At a carefree

Moment,

Where I was

Touched

By the look

Of love in

Your eyes

And on your

Face,

As I heard

Your sweet love

Fill my ears

On that hot

Summer day.

Timeless romantic epiphany. This poem speaks to the memory many have of spontaneous youthful pure love connections. It has the quality of a flashback in a movie, of a cherished simpler time before the world seemed to grow darker.

You keep the details minimal enough to emanate a timeless Zen quality as well, that strange way certain simple pure-spirited gestures have of being ALL such gestures.

Beautiful.

I love the scene of genuine love. You didnt need any flash.
It was from the heart.
