Fly

Fly

A Poem by Selah

When I was a girl, I used to fly
Soaring high
Up in the sky
Drifting from rooftop to rooftop
And I would lie among the soft cotton clouds.
I traveled the world
Free as could be
Just me and the birds
As if there were
Endless time
with
Infinite possibilities

But it doesn't work that way
And it became harder to stay
Afloat.
Until one day, I couldn't fly.
And try as I may,
My feet never left the ground.
That was the day I died.

I buried my soul
Deep, deep down in a hole
Where the flowers grew
And no one knew.
I visit my grave every night
'Cause sometimes in my dreams,
I try to take flight
But it always ends the same.

Falling
falling
falling.

Into that grave of brokenhearts.

And that is when i realize
Trapped in a prison
Created by my mind
Ensnared by my own kind
That I am the one who
won't
let
me
fly.
